One of the beauties of a small town is you get to know people pretty well even if you have never had more than two conversations with them. (sometimes, you might have never even met them.) You know people that know people that know them and it doesn’t take much to learn about a person. Even though Giles County is not as small as other parts of Tennessee, it is still rare to be introduced to someone and not walk away connected in some way. The conversation typically goes something like this.
(This conversation has been shorten for your benefit)
“You know so-and-so?”
Me: “Uh, well that name sounds familiar…”
“You know… she is the sister-in-law of such-and-such. Do you know such-and-such?”
Me: “Yeah, I went to school with such-and-such’s youngest brother. He was three years behind me.”
“Well, I am so-and-so’s best friend’s sister.”
Me: “Ohhhh…yeah very nice to ACTUALLY meet you.”
And so on and so on. You either walk away from the conversation convinced you know who they are or so confused you just tell them that you know who they are.
Well, this is similar the story of my relationship with Madison and Cody. Madison played softball with my sister several years ago. Cody and Madison were a few years behind me in high school. Then I got to work with Cody’s mom for a summer in college and my sister, now, works with Madison's mom. (again.. the beauty of a small town) Even though we had many connections, I never really considered the three of us necessarily close. However, I can honestly say that all changed the moment their inquiry came in. After the initial emails and consultation, I really wanted to be their photographer as well as their best friend. (a little dance occurred when they booked) I started counting down the days until their engagement session, because I knew that this session was going to be an unique one. Let’s just say they did not disappoint in the slightest. Between Cody’s constant quips (and climbing everything in sight) to Madison’s down-to earth smile and laughter, I could not shoot fast enough. I left their session with what felt like a permanent smile on my face, because even though the comedy was a welcomed guest, it was not the only quality that shined through. Each time the undeniable look of comfort and love would pass between the two, I became more and more excited to celebrate their big day this spring at Rose Marry Farms.
Madison and Cody, thank you for bringing true joy from the moment you stepped out of the car until we said our goodbyes! I look forward to the laughter that will be shared on your day and am practicing some pretty clever quips of my own (just for you Cody). I am forever grateful for these small-town acquaintances turned friends! Here are some of my favorites from our time spent together at Milky Way Farm!
