The In Betweens: Edition 1

"Enjoy the small things." My college Bible professor Senior year said this just about every class as we would leave. He would say, "The small things are what we live between the big things. They deserve thought, too." At first, I was like I do enjoy and am grateful for the small things. However, as I began to become more intentional on finding the small things and began a gratitude journal, I realized that I was thanking God for big or maybe sometimes medium sized things and I just let a lot of small things happen without much thought. The more I began to actually enjoy the small things, the more I began to enjoy and appreciate life.

As with most things, I became less and less intentional on finding the small things as I graduated and enter the real world. Its been several years now since that time and I am ready to start enjoying the small parts of life again. Hence, The In-Betweens series of blog posts that will outline all the small details that occurred between my big(ger) events. These details may or may not be life changing and as my mother would say, "don't amount to a hill of beans," however, its still life and I am grateful for it. So much like my gratitude journal, here are some of my in-betweens... and who knows you might make an appearance one day!

In-Betweens:

  • I have now been officially keeping one of my 2018 resolution of... wait for it... making my bed every morning for 58 days now. If you know me or have ever had to live in the same room as me, you know that this as well as keeping clothes put away is quite a task for me. (Sorry to my mom, my sisters, and my college roommates) However, I have been doing both for two months now and it is such a small feeling of accomplishment every morning.
  • I have ventured into the world of Caulitatoes, which is cauliflower mashed and fixed like mashed potatoes. I was extremely skeptical, because to me mashed potatoes are equivalent to morning coffee. However, I had to make a diet change and guess what, they are really gooooooddd!
  • I had a Valentine's date with my youngest bestie, who also just happens to be my niece, and we had so much fun. We jumped on the bed, we painted, we sang and danced to A-LOT of songs, we ate hambuggers, and I introduced her to the movie Anastasia. During the movie, she kept saying, "Van, about to sing?...Van, about to sing?" So I ended up skipping to only the singing parts.  I do believe JW is going to enjoy musicals as much as her Aunt Van!!!!! Let's be serious, isn't she the sweetest?

  • The temperature in Pulaski has been upper 60's and 70's the last few weeks. So my friend, Katie, and I have been enjoying walking outside in the afternoons. This has become one of my favorite moments of the day-- unwinding from the day and catching up on life, our fears, and our funny moments.
  • My aunt gave me a beautiful succulent for Christmas and I have managed to keep it alive. So this has given me a sense of (possible false) hope to try and grow some other house plants. Fingers-crossed. They are still alive as of this very minute. I just checked. (FYI: I have killed plants that are supposedly very hard to kill. I either love it too much or I neglect it. Growing plants is hard stuff, ya'll.)
  • My neighbor will probably say that I have been jamming out a little to hard to DNCE's new song "Dance". But come on, I'll be your amor, be my mon chéri....
  • Since, I have been making some diet changes and just trying to make healthier choices, I have stumbled upon American Clear Ice Black Raspberry. Guys, sometimes you just need bubbles and water does not cut it. This stuff is the answer. Its. so. gooooooood.
  • Lastly, I got to celebrate and love on two of my favorites, Sarah and Jesse and their upcoming wedding. In the words of her mother, "Sarah and Savannah have known each other since before they were born." Yep, yep, and yep. Sarah has always been like a little sister to me and a lot sweeter than my actual little sister. (love ya, Taylor!) And I am so thrilled that Sarah found hilarious and kind Jesse, because he is part of the family now, too. See a snippet of their shower below!
